Chinese softshell turtle

Pelodiscus sinensis

The turtle inhabits canals, ponds, and slowly flowing rivers. Eats aquatic vertebrates and invertebrates. An interesting feature is the reduced bone armor covered with soft and thick skin. Strong jaws and a long neck as well as a high temperament make him an effective and dangerous predator. This species is bred in large numbers for consumption.
